Pro Bono Legal Internship

Each year, more than 2,500 volunteer articling students work in U.S. judicial components and lawyers across the country. Approximately 1,000 articling students volunteer during the school year and approximately 1,500 during the summer. Voluntary articling may be eligible for course credits or as part of a law school`s co-op program. In addition, some schools sponsor public interest scholarships or other programs where articling students receive a scholarship to work in the public interest. Interested students should contact their law school for specific information and requirements. Each participating law firm conducts its legal internship program independently and has its own internal deadlines and requirements. Students must apply directly to any office that interests them. While application requirements vary, offices typically require a curriculum vitae, cover letter, and transcript from law school. Interested candidates must email a cover letter, resume, transcript, sample writing and contact information for three references to information@probonopartner.org with the subject line “internship request”. Working in the department requires access to information from the Department of Justice, IT systems from the Department of Justice and Department of Justice facilities. Security rules allow short-term access for up to six months. After six months or for two short-term commitments over a 12-month period, a background check is required. Pro Bono Partnership offers summer internship opportunities to current law students. Articling students work under the direct supervision of partnership lawyers, helping new not-for-profit organizations get set up (including accepting and applying for tax-exempt status), advising on employment matters, reviewing contracts, drafting corporate governance documents, and obtaining indirect contacts with various areas of law, including intellectual property and real estate. This internship should be of interest to students considering a transactional career in the nonprofit or for-profit sector, as it develops knowledge and skills transferable to both attitudes. It also meets New York State`s 50-hour pro bono legal service requirement for trainee lawyers. Articling/Law Clerk Positions PBI offers part-time and full-time unpaid internship and study opportunities to undergraduate, graduate and law students in the fall, spring and summer semesters. The Pro Bono Initiative serves as a hub for pro bono within the Illinois legal community by providing programs, resources, and technical assistance to hire more pro bono volunteers and enhance the pro bono experience. Any law student enrolled at least part-time and having completed at least one semester of law studies may apply for voluntary internships at any time. First-year law students who have not yet completed their first semester can apply for volunteer placements after December 1. The Winternship allowed students to accompany staff for 1-3 days during their winter vacation in January, giving them the opportunity to observe court hearings and ask questions. It provides participants with hands-on experience and educates students about the work the Legal Aid Society does to serve New Yorkers. Recall appeals related to disability-related litigation, consult with lawyers about referrals, and write letters to callers who provide resources and referrals. It does not require any legal knowledge or a law degree, just the ability to ask a series of questions, listen compassionately, take notes on the appellant`s problem, and consult a lawyer on the course of action that DRLC will take.

This is a great opportunity to help someone in a difficult situation. Under the supervision of CRCL lawyers and staff, volunteers gain hands-on experience in supporting people with cancer, cancer survivors, their families, friends and others affected by cancer by working on our hotline, interviewing CCRC callers by phone, and providing help and information on cancer-related legal issues. Volunteers may also have the opportunity to write correspondence, conduct legal research, update documents and resources, and more. Administration. This internship provides an overview of legal practice in a corporate law environment and introduces articling students to the diverse and complex nature of the in-house.

Interns are offered the opportunity to offer pro bono services to clients who are not covered by psychiatric health insurance under the direction and. The Legal Services Society offers students the opportunity to work directly with lawyers, paralegals, investigators and staff on client files. Internships are unpaid and can be part-time or full-time. Academic loans may be considered if your school offers this opportunity. Students or volunteers who work with DRLC`s Cancer Legal Resource Centre gain hands-on experience in supporting people with cancer, cancer survivors, their families, friends and others affected by cancer, primarily through the help of a national helpline. There are 94 U.S. prosecutor offices and 95 U.S. prosecutors` offices. Trust offices in the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands; and 59 immigration courts in 27 U.S. states and territories. Some organizations only offer employment opportunities in Washington, D.C. Other organizations, such as the Antitrust Division, the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Environment and Natural Resources Division, have field offices in various cities across the country. Students can enroll in the Civil Rights program for only two units per semester. Given the nature of this internship, students plan their own office hours to meet their needs.
