Law students may participate in a semester or one-year exchange in the second or third year and may participate in an exchange during their final semester of law school. Transfer students can participate in a one-semester exchange. Our Law Ambassador students welcome the opportunity to correspond with prospective or accredited students about the Faculty of Law experience, life at the University of British Columbia, and life in Vancouver. You can email an ambassador in ambassadors@allard.ubc.ca. The Allard School of Law also offers a robust scholarship program to help students with the cost of their law education. Scholarships are non-repayable scholarships that are awarded primarily on the basis of financial need. On average, we award over $1,000,000 in scholarships to our students each year. The school offers a joint legal education programme between the Allard School of Law and the University of Hong Kong and the Allard School of Law. The Allard School of Law has also entered into an agreement with Melbourne Law School, the University of Melbourne, that allows eligible Young Women students from both law schools to enrol in a Master of Laws program at the partner institution in lieu of their final semester or semester of Young Women study. Participating students receive JD and LLM degrees in three and a half years of full-time study.

The school`s curriculum is characterised by a wider range of subjects offered in the first year, less 100% use of final examinations, a diversification of assessment methods adapted to a wider range of learning styles and small classes. First-year courses are taught in groups of approximately 45 to 50 people, giving students more direct contact with teachers and more opportunities for detailed feedback. A complete list of programs and courses can be found on our website. The supervising faculty member determines course requirements in consultation with the student before accepting supervision. To guide students and faculty members, the general expectations for directed programs are as follows: If you are applying for interim permission, your school must send us a letter of approval from the Dean of the Faculty of Law or his official representative. The letter should read as follows: Contact our student ambassadors for an overview of the Faculty of Law or book a tour of Allard Hall. Students may take courses at other departments and schools of the University to earn credits at the Faculty of Law during their second and third years (including summer sessions between the first, second and third years). These courses may count towards the second- or third-year credit requirements for a maximum of 6 credits, but may not reduce winter semester hours or credits below the minimum requirement of 30 credits. Each student must obtain prior authorization to enrol in such courses from the Vice-Dean, Academic Affairs, who shall base his or her judgment on the suitability of the proposed course or seminar for the study of law or for a career in law and on the relevance of the proposed course or seminar to the student`s degree program at the Faculty of Law. One of the first steps in the practice of law in Canada is to obtain a law degree from an accredited institution such as the Peter A. Allard School of Law. After earning a Canadian diploma from JD, you must follow the practice requirements outlined by the National Accreditation Committee, which may include 9 months of practicum experience. Candidates who have commenced their JD degree at another Canadian common law school may apply in the Transfer category. Candidates who graduate from a foreign law school can apply in the Advanced Standing category. However, their references must be checked by the National Accreditation Committee and they must draft the LSAT. You must successfully complete a two-year law degree at Allard Law to earn an Allard Law degree.
